Flamenco & Fingerstyle Guitar Lessons in Brighton and Online
I offer one-to-one flamenco and fingerstyle guitar lessons, from complete beginners through to advanced players, either in person in Brighton or online throughout the UK.
Flamenco lessons can cover technique, compás, traditional repertoire, solo playing and accompaniment of singing and dance. Fingerstyle lessons focus particularly on ragtime, folk, folk revival and blues, with lessons tailored to your individual interests and playing style.
With over 20 years of teaching experience, lessons are tailored to each student's level, musical interests and goals rather than following a fixed course.
Introductory lesson - £15
Flamenco guitar classes (beginners to advanced)

- Fundamental general guitar and specific flamenco techniques.
- The compás (distinctive rhythm) and melodic motifs of each major palo (flamenco form).
- Falsetas (melodic guitar 'solos').
- Accompaniment of singing and dancing as well as the structure of each palo (form).
- Flamenco guitar for solo playing.
- Terminology and language.
- Popular songs and artists e.g. Ketama, Gipsy Kings etc.
Fingerstyle guitar classes (beginners to advanced)
- Fundamental general guitar and specific fingerstyle techniques.
- Musical language and basic to advance theory concepts to suit the needs/wants of the student.
- A range of material focusing particularly on ragtime, folk, folk revival and blues
- Arrangement and accompaniment for song writing and how to avoid getting stuck in one way of writing and/or playing.
- Ear Training to help Learn to intuitively play what's in your head.
Music Theory, Song Writing and Accompaniment
-How different genres of music work and are put together.
-The language and terminology of music, greatly simplifying music theory concepts.
-How to vary rhythm, technique and chord use to transform existing chord sequences into something new and fresh.
-Keys, scales, modes and more to open up and explore ways of accompanying and composing.
Online Guitar Lessons
Online lessons are available throughout the UK and work in the same way as face-to-face tuition, with lessons tailored individually to your level, interests and goals. They are particularly suitable for students who want specialist flamenco or fingerstyle tuition but don't live close to Brighton.
